Is AV just BS, designed to add to the illusion of democracy?

Alternative voting or the current system? Ithis not a Hobson's choice for a referendum. Anyone who wants changes to our electoral system, including the libdems, wants proportional representation, so why is this not on the ballot paper? In our present system the parties make promises and pledges to the people and then, when elected, they turn to America for the policies they actually carry out. The word of one foreign media tycoon has carried more weight, in successive governments, than the 30 million or so who actually vote in the elections. We need PR to curb the power that the Blairs, Thatchers and Camerons of this world hold over parliament and therefore us. If Sarah Palin or her Ilk get into power, do we really want another supine government that will lead us into more illegal invasions, or attack the institutions of this country that our grandparents fought so hard to establish? PR would make this more difficult, AV is no change whatsoever. If you want PR, spoil your voting slip by writing "I WANT PR" across it. If we get enough people to do this, it will show this referendum up for the total sham it is.
